Teach Them to Leave Well

One of the most overlooked life skills has nothing to do with school.

It's learning how to leave.

Leave the dinner table.

Leave a friend's house.

Leave a classroom.

Leave a restaurant.

Leave a job.

Leave a church.

Leave a conversation.

People remember how you leave.

Do you leave a place better than you found it?

Do you thank the people who served you?

Do you clean up after yourself?

Do you say goodbye?

Do you express gratitude?

Children who learn to leave well develop something much deeper than good manners.

They develop humility.

Respect.

Gratitude.

Awareness of others.

Those qualities will open more doors than talent ever will.

Long after your children forget what you told them about saying goodbye, they'll remember that leaving well is simply how your family treats people.

This Week's Reset

The next time your family leaves a restaurant, a friend's home, church, or an activity, pause before getting in the car and ask:

"Did we leave that place better than we found it?"

Ask Yourself

If someone watched my family leave every place we visited this week, what would they learn about the kind of people we are?
