Don't Raise Well-Behaved Cowards
Most parents want obedient children.
Wise parents also want courageous ones.
Courage isn't the absence of fear.
It's choosing to do what's right despite fear.
That means allowing your children to experience appropriate discomfort.
Trying out for the team.
Ordering their own meal.
Introducing themselves.
Speaking the truth.
Seeking forgiveness first.
Confidence grows after courage—not before it.
If we continually rescue our children from uncomfortable situations, we may also rescue them from the very experiences that build resilience.
This Week's Reset
Encourage your child to do one thing this week that feels uncomfortable but is completely safe.
Celebrate the courage more than the outcome.
Ask Yourself
Am I protecting my child from failure...or protecting them from growth?
