Let Them Be Bored

“I’m bored.”

Good.

Not because boredom is fun.

Because boredom creates space.

Space to imagine.

Space to explore.

Space to build something.

Space to notice the world around them.

When every empty moment gets filled with a screen, activity, toy, or parent-created entertainment, children don't have much reason to figure out what to do with themselves.

You don't have to become your child's cruise director.

Sometimes the best response to “I'm bored” is simply:

“I bet you'll think of something.”

Then let them.

This Week's Reset

Leave one block of your child's free time intentionally unplanned this week.

Don't provide entertainment. Give them the opportunity to create it.

Ask Yourself

Am I giving my child enough empty space to discover what they can do with it?
